I love a good theme

So two of our favorite couples are tying the knot!
We threw a couples shower for two of our band fam friends- John Mark and Ashley, who are getting married in about a month. We decided that we needed a theme...and the shower became a display of oriental flare!
I had to share some pics. My shower throwing buddies, Kim and Rachel, joined me in this venture. I think it turned out quite nicely! Our other band fam couple got married this past weekend! We threw them an awesome shower as well, but unfortunately I forgot my camera for that one. I will post some lovely wedding pics though soon!

Etsy provided our dragons!

I finally got to use my decor I brought back from China! The menu: Sweet and Sour soup home made by Kimberly, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, egg rolls, fried rolls, dumplings, and fortune cookies. Yummmmmmm!

We made origami out of newspaper from the chinese market. Kimberly is the origami queen!

The Happy Couple!

Rachel's talented hubby made his famous home made egg rolls! Delish!!!

Great fun was had by all. nee how.

a year long surprise..

Finally happened! Daniel's sweet mom has been working so hard for the last year to organize a surprise family trip to Maine for my father-in-law's 60'th bday. And we pulled it off!
The whole family was so ready for the trip to actually be here because we were all so afraid of accidentally saying something about it to him. No one wants to be that person! ha!
The day before the trip, Susie told him that they would be going on a long weekend get away to Maine (their favorite place and where they went on their honeymoon). He was so surprised and excited- little did he know that we would all be waiting for him at the airport- and that we were all staying for a week!
We had to make t shirts for the occasion of course!! Because Portland is such a small airport, we had quite an audience for the big reveal!

He was shocked!I think it took him about 24 hours for everything to sink in!
This was my first Bashta family vacation- and it was SO fun! We stayed in an adorable house on the water, traveled all over Maine, ate Lobster every day (we think that together we ate around 90 lbs of Lobster in one week! So yummy!), shopped, saw the Bush house, kayaked at sunset, went sailing, and just had fun laughing together. The Bashta fam is hilarious!!
It was an awesome week and a surprise that will be hard to top! Susie turns 60 in 5 years, so the planning better start now! hehe.

The Bush complex! They have their own island!

a girl and her doll

My parents buy their granddaughters American Girl dolls when they turn 5. It's a big day!
I still remember the Christmas morning when I got Kirsten, and my sister got Samantha.
And because I was pretty young when I got her, I had years to circle everything I wanted in the American Girl doll magazine, and wait for my surprises on birthdays and Christmases. Needless to say, I have trunks full of American Girl doll clothes! I still love Kirsten, and you she sits in a special place in my old room waiting to be given to my daughter one day.

So here are some pictures of Rebekah's big day! I would have LOVED a real American Girl doll store when I was little! She even picked out the latest AG doll who is named "Rebekah".
I'm not sure who had more fun- me or her. ha!

lately

This weekend we drove to Birmingham to host a gift card shower for Joshua and Jordan (Joshua runs sounds for Daniel and also works at Riverstone). We are thrilled that Jordan is joining our "band family" October 3rd! Speaking of, I need to find a very cute purple dress for her wedding. She is a wonderful bride and has let all of the bridesmaids pick out their own deep purple dress- so we can actually wear them again :) Thank you Jordan! So, if you see any cute purple dresses out there- please let me know. I'm very excited because I love purple right now- so this gives me a wonderful excuse for a new dress!
The shower was a success! It was at the home of Kimberly and Cury (Cury playes bass with D). Kimberly is incredibly creative and made all sorts of adorbale oragami and hung it along with cute signs everywhere with love quotes on them. It was very organic and simple- but cute! She had mason jars filled with candles on the deck, and tea lights everywhere- so beautiful. It was a dessert shower, so we had homemade ice cream, peach and mint choc chip, cheesecake, coffee punch, cheese and crackers, and mini sandwhiches. Yum! They get some great gift cards and the party was very fun!
WE stayed up until 3am- the boys outside talking around the fire pit (I love that those boys love to talk) and the girls inside sipping wine. I really needed that girl time-I miss those friends!
We drove home yesterday and Daniel and all the band guys left today to play in TN.
So it's more girl time for me! Love it!
How was your weekend?

Big News

Big News-
Celine Dion is pregnant. If you know me well, you know of my love for Celine.
Daniel bought me tickets 2 years in advance (before we were even engaged) for her show this past January- it was amazing!
Anyway, she is 41 and conceived via in vitro- from an embryo that had been frozen for 8 years!!
Crazy!
So congrats Celine! I'm glad I saw your show before you are big and pregnant and probably not touring again anytime soon.

end of summer

Wow- last night I went to my ten year high school reunion. Even though I only went to Providence Christian Academy one year, my senior year, I have kept in touch with my classmates. Because I lived with Cori, who also graduated from Providence, all though my years at Auburn, I have especially kept up with some girls.
I was a little nervous, wondering if it would be a night filled with awkward conversations. But we had so much fun! I really could close my eyes and be back in 12th grade! I really don't know where the last ten years went!
I had mercy on daniel and didn't make it come, as did a group of girls with their husbands, so we all went together. I had the dj play "1999" and we danced!
It was just fun to talk about silly memories, and teachers, and who dated who, and prom etc. Providence was a great year for me, even as scary as it was coming into a senior class. The girls were so sweet, and we still have girls night out every couple of months.
Most people looked the same or better- which was good. I have heard that the reunions further down the road can be scary:) So a big milestone has passed.

Today we leave for Sea Island!! I can't wait!
An end of the summer beach trip is the best!

I'll post some pictures when we get back.
